Saint George, Victory-Bearer, born to Christian parents in Cappadocia, joined the Roman army as a young man and became a talented soldier valiant in battle. He rose in the ranks of the military, but the pagan government was uneasy that a Christian held a position of power. In refusing to renounce his Christianity to make sacrifices to Roman Gods, he endured many unimaginable tortures, each worse than the last. With each torcher he was healed by the Lord and it strengthened his unyielding faith.
