"The artists, writers, filmmakers, dramatists, and composers of the avant-garde enthusiastically welcomed the October Revolution and its installment of a new social order. They readily immersed themselves in work for the new Soviet government and society, a phenomenon well captured by Vladimir Tatlin (1885-1953), one of the periods leading avant-garde figures, who wrote: "to accept or not to accept . . .there was no such question for me. I organically merged into active creative, social and pedagogical life."
