The Order of Friendship of Peoples was an order established on December 17, 1972, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Soviet Union. It was awarded to persons (including non-citizens), organizations, enterprises, military units, as well as administrative subdivisions of the USSR for accomplishments in strengthening of inter-ethnic and international friendship and cooperation, for economical, political, scientific, military, and cultural development of the Soviet Union.
The order was dissolved with the dissolution of the USSR in December of 1991.
